Active Speaker Main Board
MULTIPLE BOARDS FOR MULTIPLE USES

The modules from Weiss Engineering add digital implementations of unparalleled quality to active speaker designs. The modules can be used as they are or be modified to suit the client’s requirements.

Some modules are intended for mounting into the speaker cabinets, while others can be mounted in an external control box. These are of the latter type:

  • Main Board with power supply, DSP, USB, Ethernet, AES/EBU, and S/PDIF inputs and outputs
  • 8-channel D/A Converter
  • 8-channel AES/EBU output interface
  • 2-channel A/D Converter
  • Display / IR receiver board
  • Gesture sensing board
  • Trigger input board

Modules typically mounted into the speaker cabinets:

  • 4-channel D/A Converter
  • Power amplifier
  • Power supply
The Main Board‘s Connectors

The main board connects to all the other boards in the control box. It has the following on-board inputs/outputs:

  • Ethernet connector for streaming, web-based remote control, and software updates
  • USB B type connector for audio playback via USB
  • 1 x S/PDIF input on an RCA connector
  • 2 x S/PDIF input on Toslink (optical) connectors
  • 1 x AES/EBU input on XLR connector (via an adapter board)
  • 2 x AES/EBU output on XLR connectors (via an adapter board)
  • IEC-type mains voltage connector with automatic mains voltage switching
  • Mains sockets for connecting other devices
  • Multipin connectors to connect peripheral boards
The Main Board’s Processing Capabilities

The main board has one ARM processor and two SHARC processors for interfacing and signal processing.

The SHARC processors are typically used for tasks such as:

  • Arbitrary phase and/or minimum phase crossover for multiple speakers
  • Delays to align speaker impulse responses
  • Volume control
  • Room equalizer, creative equalizer, de-essing, constant volume, crosstalk canceling, vinyl simulation, loudness equalizer, or other custom-specific algorithms
