The Gain setting is a complex topic. The proper gain depends on the program material – the higher the level in terms of dBFS and the higher the compression of the program material (loudness), the more likely there are inter-sample overs.

Now, depending on how much clipping you can tolerate, you can adjust the Gain accordingly. -0.2dB works for “normal” program material that is not overly compressed and which preferably does not hit the 0dBFS ceiling.
